Project Execution Manager — Rooftop Solar

Field Operations & InstallationBengaluru, KarnatakaFull-time3–5 years

Take a signed booking and put a working, inspected, commissioned rooftop solar system on a homeowner's roof — the crew, the material, the BESCOM file, the quality and the handover.

About Helira

Helira Energy Private Limited is a brand + technology company for residential rooftop solar in Bengaluru. Homeowners get an honest quote in minutes in the app rather than waiting days for a site visit to learn what a rooftop costs. Helira-certified installers carry out the physical work; the warranty and accountability stay with Helira.

Why this role exists

Helira sells a 25-year promise and carries the warranty itself. That promise is only as good as the work on the roof.

Today the founder runs every job personally — site survey, material, crew, BESCOM net-metering file, inspection, subsidy claim, commissioning, handover call. That works at one install and fails at eight. This role takes the execution of live jobs off the founder's desk and runs it properly, end to end, job by job.

Be clear about the stage. There is a pipeline of live proposals, a small number of jobs in execution, and two engaged Helira-certified installers. There is no team under you and no inherited process — for the first months you do the work yourself, with the founder, and the two of you write the way it should be done as you go. The installation standard, the installer bench and the commercial terms stay with the founder for now. Your job is to make every live install happen correctly and on time, and to be the person who knows what actually goes wrong on a Bengaluru roof.

It grows from there. As monthly volume rises, this seat is the natural first owner of the schedule, then of a coordinator hired underneath it. (A statement of direction, not a promise of title or timing.)

What you will do

  • Run every live job from booking to handover. Site survey, material against the bill of materials, crew booked and briefed, and the sequence held when a delivery slips or a crew is held up elsewhere.
  • Confirm site readiness before anyone is dispatched — access, ladder or scaffold route, water and power, where the inverter goes, who will be home, society permission. A crew sent to a site that is not ready is the most expensive hour in this business.
  • File and chase BESCOM and PM Surya Ghar. Net-metering or SRTPV application, sanctioned-load increase where required, work execution, inspection, meter, subsidy claim and its evidence pack. Know every morning which file is about to stall and why.
  • Hold the quality standard on site. Work to Helira's installation SOP, make sure the app's photo checkpoints are completed before a crew leaves the roof, and raise what the checkpoints miss.
  • Commission and hand over. Inverter configured, monitoring proved working, document pack assembled, and the homeowner walked through her own system in a language she is comfortable in.
  • Keep the homeowner informed — one proactive call or message at each stage, so she never has to ring and ask what is happening.
  • Insist on safe work at height. Tackle checked, kit worn, nobody improvising on a parapet. If a site is unsafe it does not proceed, and you will be backed every time you say so.
  • Support the installer bench. Help train and assess Helira-certified installers against the standard, and tell the founder plainly which crews are good and which are not.
  • Keep the record straight in Helira's internal operations system, and flag the job that is about to slip before it slips.

Where this role stops

You own getting each job done right. You do not set price, issue the system specification, sign installer commercial terms or make warranty and subsidy commitments a customer has not been issued. When the roof disagrees with the drawing, you escalate it with evidence — that feedback is part of the job, not an interruption to it.

Essential requirements

  • 3–5 years in residential rooftop solar execution in Bengaluru — running or coordinating installations on homeowners' roofs. Utility-scale, open-access or ground-mount solar is a different business and does not substitute for it.
  • Hands-on experience of BESCOM SRTPV or net-metering applications and PM Surya Ghar (PMSGMBY) subsidy claims. You have filed them, chased them, had them rejected and fixed them.
  • Fluency in Kannada and English, spoken and written. Crews, security guards, society secretaries and BESCOM offices all run in Kannada.
  • Comfortable on rooftops daily, and comfortable telling a crew its work is not acceptable.
  • Organised in a way that survives ten live jobs at once: a written system, not a good memory.
  • Own two-wheeler and valid licence; Bengaluru-based with daily travel across sites.
  • Willing to do the work yourself, with the founder, before there is a team.

Preferred

  • Electrical or mechanical qualification — ITI, diploma or degree.
  • Apartment and society installations, and the permissions that come with them.
  • Experience of jobs where government paperwork sat on the critical path.
  • Exposure to app-based or photo-checkpoint quality systems.
  • Having worked somewhere small enough that nobody else was going to do it.

What we offer

  • The execution seat in a company whose entire promise rests on execution — Helira carries the warranty, so this work is the brand, not the back office.
  • Direct, daily work with the founder on live jobs, at the point where the way a Helira job gets done is still being decided.
  • Growth with the volume: the schedule, then a coordinator under you, as installs per month rise.
  • A company that will not ask you to cut a corner on a roof to hit a date.

Compensation: competitive for an early-stage startup; finalised at offer.
